MEET DR. TERRY BURGER

Terry Burger, Ph.D., is the owner and operator of Student Evaluation Center. He is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist licensed in the state of Indiana (#1420551) who is endorsed by the state of Indiana for independent practice (#10637). Dr. Burger specializes in psychoeducational evaluations with children and adolescents and serves primarily those residing in the Kentuckiana area.

Born and raised in Indiana, Dr. Burger resides in Clark County with his wife, Autumn, and their two children, Elijah and Anastatia. In their free time, Dr. Burger and his family enjoy hiking, jogging, kayaking, camping, traveling, dining out, reading, playing board games, attending Mass, providing care packages for the homeless, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Burger earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Indiana University and his Doctoral degree in Educational and School Psychology from Indiana State University. He completed his American Psychological Association (APA) doctoral internship with Omaha Public Schools in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists, the Indiana Association of School Psychologists, and the American Psychological Association.

Employed as a school psychologist by a local school corporation, Dr. Burger has served as an adjunct professor for Indiana University (Southeast campus) where he taught undergraduate courses in Introductory to Psychology as well as a course he was asked to develop around his profession entitled Psychology in the Schools. Dr. Burger has also taught for Indiana State University, teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics for the behavioral sciences. Dr. Burger supervises school psychology interns from various universities across the area. Finally, Dr. Burger works in a clinical psychology setting where he evaluates both children and adults to aid in obtaining a better understanding their current symptoms and levels of functioning, and in creating an effective therapuetic treatment plan. Dr. Burger routinely collaborates with other professionals such as pediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, other school psychologists, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and parent advocates, to name a few.

Much of Dr. Burger’s time is spent assessing students for special education eligibility, writing their psychoeducational evaluation reports, developing their individualized education plans or their Section 504 accommodation plans, and assisting school intervention teams in their design, implementation, and monitoring of general education interventions. 

Overall, Dr. Burger possesses a complex and comprehensive understanding of the knowledge and experience required to provide his clients with assessments and resources that will help their children realize their fullest potential and flourish in educational environments.  

Finally, Dr. Burger has authored and coauthored several peer-reviewed publications over the years. He has accumulated several writing awards at both the local and state level. His research interests are comprehensive and include improving the educational experience and performance of children with special needs, improving the educational experience of students coping with psychological disorders, and examining outcomes of adolescent participation in high-risk behaviors.
